Certifying consumer products in the NSF Flushable Consumer Products Program is a thorough yet efficient process, employing seven basic steps:
- Application
The certification process begins with the completion of a quick online form.
- Project Manager Assignment
NSF clients are assigned a dedicated Certification Project Manager who will serve as a single point of contact from product testing to facility inspection to final product approval listing.
- Product Information and Sample Submittal
Basic product information is supplied to the NSF project manager who then requests submittal of samples.
- Laboratory Testing
Utilizing the INDA/EDANA Guidelines, NSF conducts laboratory testing at its full-scale flushability testing facility, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
- Manufacturing Facility Inspection
As part of initial certification and annual monitoring, an NSF auditor conducts a facility inspection wherever your products are being manufactured.
- NSF Certification
After all tests and inspections are complete, NSF Certification is granted. The NSF public website is updated to include details on your certified product(s). Upon achieving certification, you may begin using the NSF "Certified Flushable" mark on your product, packaging and marketing materials.
- Maintenance Program
Annual audits and periodic product re-testing is required to maintain an active listing.
