Italian Regulations Update
Earlier this year, Italy replaced Ministerial Decree n. 443/90 with the new Ministerial Decree n. 25/2012. DM 25 introduces both new and revised requirements.
Highlights include:
- The materials in contact with drinking water must be compliant with the DM 174/2004.
- The equipment and by-pass devices are required to undergo testing that verifies the devices minimum limits of no-use and its maximum life-end limits. This testing verifies that the equipment does not modify the potable water quality and that the potable water is still within limits prescribed by Decree n. 31. The decree also requires these testing values be published in the products user manual and on the product label.
- A product can be placed on the market prior to receiving authorization from the Ministry of Health; it is the responsibility of the manufacturer or importer to ensure the product conforms to the requirements with authorized test data to support this claim.
