ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Ann Arbor-based NSF International, an independent public health and safety organization that works to protect human health and the environment, received a Renaissance Award of Merit from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for the branding of the NSF Sustainability™ program.
NSF International’s Creative and Production Team, which consists of Manager Marla Schalow and Coordinator Lisa Coliadis, accepted the award at the IABC Renaissance Awards Ceremony held at the Detroit Renaissance Center on Thursday, June 23rd.
NSF has tested and certified products for safety, health and the environment since 1944. As an independent, public health and safety organization, NSF’s mission is to protect human health and the environment through standards development, inspection, testing and certification for the food, water, build/construction, retail, consumer products, and health science industries. Additional NSF services include Energy Star® testing, sustainable product claims verification, organic certification provided by QAI (Quality Assurance International) and management systems registrations delivered through NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR). Operating in more than 120 countries, NSF is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Food and Water Safety and Indoor Environment.
NSF Sustainability™ draws upon this expertise in standards development, product assurance and certification to help companies green their products, operations, systems and supply chains. NSF has offered a wide variety of sustainability services for many years but needed a unifying brand identity that effectively conveyed NSF’s full complement of services to the marketplace.
NSF’s Creative and Production team created a sustainability brand identity that included a logo, certification mark and graphics, which were incorporated into tradeshow display, brochure, website and electronic inserts. To reduce paper, informational inserts were electronic only and brochures were printed using environmentally-friendly soy inks on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper. The new NSF Sustainability™ brand was launched at the 2010 U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference and Expo and helped generate a 50 percent increase of qualified leads.
“The branding developed for NSF Sustainability™ incorporated design elements that were clean, visually appealing and better for the environment as we used environmentally-friendly paper and inks to produce our print materials. It was important that the design and materials reflect NSF’s dedication to greening our own products and operations, as well as assisting other companies in greening theirs,” said Elizabeth Jones, Vice President of Marketing for NSF International.
