Process: How to Become NSF Certified

The NSF Mark, well-respected by public health officials, retailers, and consumers, is recognized as a symbol of product quality and integrity. Through the years, the NSF Mark has helped thousands of manufacturers get to markets faster, expand into new markets, and get their products accepted more easily.

While we distinguish ourselves due to our thorough product evaluation, we've made the process simple and efficient for clients. By assigning a dedicated NSF project manager, you will have one single point of contact to guide you through the process, overseeing your certification project every step of the way.

The NSF Certification Process: Logical and Easy (View Certification Process Video)

  1. Start by submitting your product information to NSF.
  2. NSF provides a work/time/cost estimate detailing the project scope.
  3. NSF requests supplier and design details about your products.
  4. NSF conducts a production facility inspection to verify that the design or processing have not been modified and ensure that only NSF Authorized materials and components are used.
  5. NSF conducts appropriate laboratory testing to evaluate the material, product, or system.
  6. NSF provides a summary letter and reports that are used to support NSF Certification.
  7. NSF issues your certification and publishes the list of NSF-Certified products on the NSF website for public viewing and confirmation. In addition, NSF performs unannounced surveillance inspections to ensure ongoing conformity assessment with NSF Requirements.
