As the number of green claims in the marketplace continues to increase, consumers, companies and their business customers are demanding greater accountability for these claims. A company's environmental claim about a product, for example that it contains a specified percent recycled content or is made out of certain materials, is often no longer considered valid. The market place is increasingly looking to independent, third-party certification as the new standard of care.

Single Attribute Claims

Our clients often ask for verification of a single attribute, such as recycled content. The process includes an off-site review of pertinent documentation and an on-site verification of operations, material inputs, and management controls. If successful, NSF issues the client an opinion letter that is suitable for distribution outside the company. The opinion letter is intended to give confidence beyond a simple certificate that the verification was performed using accepted auditing practices and the appropriate standards. The letter describes the scope of the verification, verification steps, the locations audited, and the audit team's conclusion.
