For many years, appliances used by restaurants, schools, and other similar commercial operations have been required to meet minimum design, construction, and performance standards to ensure public health is protected. To help provide consumers with assurance when purchasing appliances for their homes, NSF International has helped develop several standards and protocols to make sure that many of the products we use in our homes every day also meet minimum requirements for design, cleanability, and sanitation. Today testing and certification is available through NSF for many major residential appliances, including dishwashers, clothes washers, and dryers, refrigerators, ovens, and ranges. Certification is also available for several smaller appliances, including microwaves, coffee makers, blenders, and even food processors.
