There are many other products designed for home use for which NSF International offers testing and certification.
Composting Toilets (NSF/ANSI 41). Composting toilets use little or no water and generally do not require hookup to a sewer or septic system. They work by providing an enclosed environment that allows the natural process of aerobic decomposition to occur.
Electrical Incinerating Toilets (P157). Incinerating toilets are self-contained units typically consisting of a traditional commode-style seat connected to a holding tank but do not require water to operate. An electric heating system incinerates waste products deposited in the holding tank. When properly maintained and functioning, an incinerating toilet should produce a fine, sterile ash that can easily be disposed of with other trash.
Kitchen Products (multiple standards). Whether you are simply looking to replace an old cutting board or are considering remodeling your entire kitchen, keep in mind that the products you select for use at home can impact the health and safety of your family. For example, not all plastic storage containers are safe for food storage, nor are all countertop materials intended for direct contact with food. To help consumers select safer products, NSF tests and certifies a wide array of residential kitchen products, including cookware, countertops, dishwashers and food storage containers.
Rainwater Collection System Components (P151). While many products and materials make up a rainwater collection system, P151 specifically addresses potential concerns about barrier materials (i.e. coatings, paints and liners) used on either rooftops or ground surfaces used to collect rainwater for drinking water purposes.
Wastewater Treatment Systems (NSF/ANSI 40). These systems are like miniature municipal treatment plants designed for use by a single family. They are traditionally installed much like traditional septic tanks, having a treatment tank similar in size. The internal design is quite different and includes mechanical and electrical components that enhance treatment.
