NSF International Global Food Division Receives Two Food Safety Awards
Awards recognize excellence within the food industry and build on the success of NSF’s 2011 Company of the Year award
LONDON – The Global Food Division of NSF International, an independent public health organization that writes standards, and tests and certifies products for food, water, health sciences and consumer goods industries, received two prestigious awards from the Society of Food Hygiene and Technology (Society) for its excellence in food safety. Chair of the Society Awards Judging Panel Chris Turner presented Mike Wilson (NSF International Food Retail Managing Director) with the ‘Best New Product & Service’ Award and Jon Adams (Head of NSF’s Processing Inspection) received the ‘Best Auditor/Technologist’ Award during the Society’s annual luncheon on November 22nd in London.
The ‘Best New Product & Service’ Award recognized NSF Insight, a new online food safety assessment developed jointly by NSF and Cognisco, a specialist in assessing and developing workforce competence, to provide consumer safety and business protection in a cost-effective, timely way. The new resource provides insight into workforce performance and measurable tools for improvement by identifying how the role of managers and supervisors influence food safety practices.
Mary Clarke, CEO of Cognisco says, “We are delighted that Insight has won ‘best product’ for at this year’s prestigious SOFHT awards. The award win is testament to our innovative approach to assessing employee competence in all areas of food safety management. Insight is delivering compelling results for clients in the food industry, which will help raise safety standards, reduce consumer risks and protect businesses.”
The ‘Best Auditor/Technologist’ Award recognized Jon Adams, Head of NSF’s Processing Inspection, for his technical expertise in global food safety standards and sound judgment when applying these standards. He also trains new auditors on the importance of fairness, consistency and integrity with his enthusiastic demeanor.
Catherine Watkinson, Chair of the Society, commented, “The Society of Food Hygiene and Technology Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence within the food industry and its associated industries. These two awards highlight the continued success of NSF International and its nearly 70 years of expertise the organization brings to the global food industry.”
Entries were judged by a panel of experienced food industry professionals that were supported by endorsements submitted by individuals that have worked with the nominated organization and have experienced first hand the quality and service provided.
“Last year, NSF received the ‘Company of the Year (>100 employees)’ Award from the Society of Food Hygiene and Technology. Earning both the ‘Best New Product & Service’ and ‘Best Auditor’ Awards this year continues to demonstrate our innovation and expertise in food safety. It is an honor to receive these awards from the Society,” said Tom Chestnut, Vice President of NSF International’s Global Food Division.
