Working With NSF

NSF international standards and programs are often cited in federal, state or local regulations, including codes that may impact public health. Regulators serve on the joint committees that develop and maintain these consensus-based American National Standards.

Regulatory representation on NSF standards committees provides a cost-effective method of ensuring that NSF standards align with the needs of the agencies as well as with laws and regulations. This open and transparent cooperation has served the best interests of all stakeholders, especially health departments, water works utilities and public health professionals.

Cooperation between NSF and regulatory bodies has grown significantly over the decades. NSF is a reliable, trusted partner that provides product listings, copies of standards and expert consultation to regulators.

NSF also provides training for regulatory staff through classroom, conference and online sessions on a wide variety of environmental health topics.
