What Is SFI Certified Sourcing?

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified sourcing provides a reliable means of assuring that raw material in a forest-based product is sourced in a sustainable manner. This confirms that your products don't harm the environment. It also gives you access to the use of the SFI logo and appropriate labels.

How Does Certified Sourcing Link to Chain of Custody?

Certified sourcing can be part of a more complex chain of custody certification, or it can stand alone. Certified claims are more limited than SFI or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) chain of custody claims, which link to certified forest tracts.

Benefits of Certification

Wood and fiber that meet the fiber sourcing requirements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) are readily available throughout North America and represent the largest certified source in the world. This program focuses on the core concerns of customers who care about forests, assuring that the wood has been harvested legally and does not come from endangered forests. SFI-certified fiber in this program is sourced from responsible firms who have demonstrated significant programs to promote reforestation, protect forest soils and water quality, provide information for wildlife protection and help all parts of the industry become more environmentally sound in their practices.
