Trust
Integrity is our greatest asset. Since 1944, NSF International has been certifying
products, writing standards and conducting audits to help protect food, water
and consumer goods.
Independence
As a not-for-profit organization, NSF stakeholders include industry, the regulatory
community and consumers. By working closely with these key stakeholders, NSF
has established a history of independence as exemplified by unparalleled third-party
evaluations and the value of the brands that carry the NSF Mark.
Technical Expertise
NSF is widely recognized for its scientific and technical expertise in the health
and environmental sciences. Its professional staff includes microbiologists, engineers,
chemists, toxicologists, and environmental health professionals with broad experience
both in public and private organizations. In addition to state-of-the-art testing
facilities and internationally accredited laboratories, NSF audit staff conducts
more than 30,000 inspections in more than 80 countries each year.
Innovation
By combining objectivity with scientific innovation, NSF has created and
implemented highly customized programs that offer practical solutions. The
result: greater market access, faster time to market, and reduced liabilities.
The NSF International Commitment
NSF's success is grounded in its heritage, which can be traced back to its founding
in 1944 when two professors from the University of Michigan and a public health
official from Toledo, Ohio established the National Sanitation Foundation.
From those early days, NSF set a course to create independent standards that improve overall public health. Today, this historical commitment is represented by the NSF Mark, which is recognized for its value in international trade around the world and is respected by regulatory agencies at the local, state, federal and international level.
NSF has expanded considerably to meet the growing needs of clients worldwide. NSF has earned Collaborating Centre designations by the World Health Organization (WHO) for Food and Water Safety and Indoor Environment.
Additional services include safety audits for the food and water industries, quality management systems and environmental management systems registrations delivered through NSF International Strategic Registrations, Ltd., organic certification provided by Quality Assurance International and education through the NSF Center for Public Health Education.
