Asia Pacific Cooperation from Multi-Perspective - The 2nd Global Water Purification Summit (GWPS 2016)

The Second International Summit for Water Purification Market (GWPS 2016) themed by “Asia Pacific Cooperation from Multi-perspective” that co-organized by Direct Drinking Water Times and NSF International will be held in Beijing at April 21-22, 2016. GWPS 2016 is aimed to unite the water purification industry authorities come from seven countries and districts in Asia-pacific area to jointly construct a “DAVOS” global high dialogue platform for water purification industry, an international platform for China to exchange with the outside world and a shared Chinese platform for international water purification market. NSF International Publishes Consumer Guide to Certified Water Filtration Devices for Lead Reduction

NSF International has published an easy-to-use consumer guide to water filters that have been tested and certified by NSF International to reduce lead in drinking water. This guide also explains the NSF standards and the process by which NSF International verifies a filter’s ability to reduce lead in drinking water. The guide lists the water filters certified by NSF International for lead reduction along with the proper replacement cartridge (element) that should be used with each system. It includes information about the different types of NSF certified water filtration systems to help consumers know which system best fits their home or business. Additionally, the guide includes information about the importance of replacing filter cartridges (elements) and NSF International’s robust testing and certification process. The guide will be updated when new products have been certified. > Read More

NSF International Announces New Leadership Roles in Its Global Water Division

NSF International, a global independent public health and safety organization, has promoted five general managers in its Global Water Division in response to the company’s increased growth. These leaders will support NSF’s continued growth, help strengthen customer service, and develop new standards and services that address emerging public health needs associated with drinking water. The leaders are:

  • Dave Purkiss has been promoted to General Manager, Plumbing Products
  • Nasrin Kashefi has been promoted to General Manager, Plastics Program
  • Theresa Bellish has been promoted to General Manager, Municipal Water Products
  • Blake Stark has been promoted to General Manager, Treatment Chemicals & Filtration Media
  • Amie Scott has joined NSF International as General Manager, New Global Water Programs

Through this acquisition, NSF International will expand food safety and quality services to a wider New Zealand and Australia food manufacturer and retail market. Some Supplement Ingredients Can Hurt You

Although many manufacturers use NSF certification for their dietary supplements to show consumers that they don’t contain harmful ingredients there are some products that include ingredients that could hurt you. One of the top 11 ingredients to avoid is DMBA, a synthetic stimulant that has been masquerading as geranium and can cause increase heart rates, heart attacks and worse. ISO 13485:2016 Medical Devices - Quality Management Systems Standard Released

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the updated ISO 13485 medical devices quality management systems standard on March 1, 2016. NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR) will be working to ensure a smooth transition to the new international standard for medical device quality management systems. We are committed to developing useful tools, webinars and publications to assist your organization with the transition process. Similar publications were produced by NSF-ISR for the ISO 9001:2015 transition and can be viewed on our ISO 9001 webpage.

Key improvements in the 2016 version include:

  • Expansion of the standard’s applicability to include all organizations involved in the lifecycle of the product, from inception to end of life
  • Greater focus on post-market surveillance (including complaint handling)
  • Improved alignment with regulatory requirements
  • Increased focus on risk management
  • More emphasis on implementing the appropriate infrastructure, particularly for the production of sterile medical devices

ISO Releases Draft of ISO 45001, the International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) released the Draft International Standard (DIS) ISO 45001, Occupational health and safety management systems on February 12, 2016. ISO/DIS 45001:2016 is available through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), with the final version expected to be published as an International Standard by late 2016 or early 2017. ISO/DIS 45001:2016, Occupational health and safety management systems takes into account other International Standards in this area, such as OHSAS 18001. The standard is intended to help organizations, regardless of size or industry, in designing systems to proactively prevent injury and ill health. All of its requirements are designed to be integrated into an organization’s management processes. The new standard will implement the Annex SL process and structure, making integration of multiple ISO management system standards easier, as well as adding the recognition of the ISO management system standards name. > Read More
