Consumer Guide to NSF Certified Lead Filtration Devices for Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water

In response to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, there has been an unprecedented demand for point-of-use water filters to reduce the levels of lead in the municipal water serving residents and businesses in Flint.

The main contaminant of concern in the Flint water supply is lead. NSF has created a guide that lists all filters that NSF has certified for lead reduction in drinking water. It also explains the NSF standards and the process by which NSF International verifies a filter’s ability to reduce lead in drinking water. Some of the products listed in the guide may also be certified to reduce other contaminants besides lead.

NSF Creates New UK Scheme to Streamline Approvals

NSF-WRc is excited to announce that it will be launching a new scheme, NSF REG4 in the coming months. As an alternative to current approval schemes, NSF REG4 covers all needs in terms of UK approvals for water fittings, ensuring product compliance with the requirements of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014 and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009. Reducing time to market, the scheme will also provide annual production monitoring that will benefit the UK water industry as well as the end user.
