ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Global public health organization NSF International has appointed Derek DeLand as Manager of Environmental Health Programs. In his new role at NSF International DeLand will build awareness of NSF International’s standards, certification, registration and inspection programs among regulators and state, county and local health department officials.

DeLand has nearly 20 years of experience in environmental health. Prior to joining NSF International, he served as the Director of Environmental Health at the Lenawee County Health Department in Adrian, Mich. In this role, DeLand managed all environmental health programs which included food safety, water supply and sewage disposal. He also served as a Sanitarian for the Lenawee County Health Department where he conducted regulatory compliance activities, took the lead in writing the local environmental health code and amended the foodservice enforcement policy to align with the FDA Food Code.

“Derek’s public health experience and knowledge of environmental health issues compliments NSF International’s public health mission and allows him to help expand our regulatory outreach programs and support our work with health department officials,” said Stan Hazan, NSF International’s Senior Director of Science and Regulatory Affairs.

DeLand is a member of the National Environmental Health Association. He holds a Master of Public Health degree with an environmental health concentration from the University of Illinois – Springfield.
