FDA issues Commercial Retail Deli Slicer Inspection Tips for Food Safety

NSF recently revised ANSI/NSF Standard 8 for deli slicers. This means that newly manufactured slicers will now need to comply with the new standard, effective November 2012, or be delisted. However, since slicers typically remain in use for a number of years, operators and regulators must be diligent in their inspection, evaluation and maintenance of this equipment, according to the FDA. This flyer from the FDA can be posted near deli slicers to remind operators of the proper maintenance. Additional information can be found at the FDA website. The FDA website also offers an explanation for food safety professionals.
