Automotive Recycler Certification

- Certification Process
The NSF full-service Automotive Recycler Certification Program provides independent, third-party certification for automotive recyclers and confirms recyclers’ ability to meet requirements such as grading, labeling and traceability as well as federal, state and local recycler requirements.
NSF International worked with automotive recyclers and industry experts to develop the requirements for the Automotive Recycler Certification Program in accordance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) procedures. The program helps insurers, regulators and consumers identify certified recyclers that comply with business, licensing, reporting, environmental and safety requirements as well as operations requirements for vehicle acquisition, dismantling, equipment, parts storage, customer service and sales.
Benefits of Certification
There are thousands of automotive recyclers in the U.S. today. With NSF recycler certification, qualifying recyclers now have a way to differentiate themselves in terms of providing high quality recycled parts.
Certification means that consumers can have full confidence that parts purchased from NSF certified recyclers are graded and labeled properly. Certification requirements includes requirements for vehicle acquisition, part grading, initial inventory, dismantling, stocking, sales, delivery, recalls, traceability, customer service, equipment and document retention.
Why Work With NSF
NSF knows the automotive industry.
Recycler certification complements NSF’s other automotive supply chain certification services to ensure the highest quality parts and services:
- Automotive Parts Certification, which certifies that automotive aftermarket parts meet rigid quality, safety and performance standards for form, fit and function.
- Automotive Collision Parts Distributor Certification, which certifies distributors who sell aftermarket parts.
- Collision Repair Shop Certification, which certifies the capability of a repair shop’s facility, procedures, training and internal processes to execute higher quality, consistent and safer repairs.
Certified automotive recyclers will undergo yearly onsite audits. Recyclers that meet all certification requirements can use the NSF Certified Automotive Recycler mark on their website and promotional materials. NSF certified recyclers also will be included in NSF’s online certification listings and undergo ongoing facility audits to maintain certification.
