Certification Process

NSF follows a simple process designed to achieve quick turnaround times, resulting in product certification within a reasonable timeframe.

  1. Application: Your company submits an application and information about your organizational management system, including which control points in the laundering process are documented, monitored and audited. If you are seeking certification for healthcare textiles, you also need to submit a risk assessment of your laundering process. This includes evaluating potential risks that could impact the hygienic cleanliness of healthcare textiles and documenting the steps taken to mitigate those risks.
  2. Auditing: NSF conducts an on-site audit of your facilities. During the audit, samples of each textile type will be collected and sent to NSF.
  3. Testing: NSF tests the samples that were collected during all on-site audits for a total aerobic plate count, yeast and mold, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli. To ensure ongoing compliance, product testing and audits will be conducted each year.
  4. Certification: Once facilities pass the audits and the samples pass testing, certification is granted.
