Standards Updates: NSF/ANSI/CAN 50 - 2021

The 2021 edition of NSF/ANSI/CAN 50 has published. This version contains the changes below, which are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.

A new version of NSF/ANSI/CAN 50 has been published. Unless otherwise noted, changes have been implemented immediately by NSF.

Issue 106

This revision adds Section 28: Flotation or Sensory Deprivation Systems and Related Equipment.

NSF has established a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2025 for review and testing, if applicable, for any products currently certified under the CCS.

Issue 140

This revision modifies language relating to regenerative media filter testing throughout Section 6 and in Section N-2.4. The revision adds a testing requirement for precoat filters that use a bump cycle to release and reposition filter cake without replacement of the filter aid.

NSF has established a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2028. Products will be evaluated and retested, if applicable, during their 5-year retest period.

Issue 162

This revision incorporates language regarding automated controller valves into Sections 9 and 19.1. The language clarifies that requirements for valves also apply to automated valves and manufactured manifolds, and that automated valves with integrated automatic controller functions must also comply with Section 19. The revision also adds several definitions to Section 3.

NSF has established a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2024.

Issue 170

This revision adds language to Section 6.3.4.3.3 regarding filter media, adding particle size and uniformity coefficient to the labeling requirements for sand-type media.

Issue 171

This revision adds NSF/ANSI 419 as a normative reference in Section 2 and adds several definitions in Section 3. It also incorporates language regarding ultrafine filtration.

NSF has established a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2024 for review and testing, if applicable, for any products currently certified under the CCS.

Issue 175

This revision further modifies language in Section 6.3.4 that was initiated in Issue 170 and adds language regarding sieve analysis methods in Section 13.2.2.

Issue 176

This revision updates language relating to display resolution for flow metering devices in Section 24.11 and adds further requirements for use instructions supplied with these devices in Section 24.14.

NSF has established a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2024.

Issue 177

This revision clarifies the scope of Section 26 for interactive waterplay venue surfacing systems.

Issue 179

This revision adds an additional testing protocol for UV reactors in Section 15.18.2.

Issue 180

This revision removes Sections 6.2.9.2 and 6.3.4.3.3, as it was redundant language already listed in Sections 13.1.3 and 13.2.5.

Issue 181

This revision updates Section 6 to define the default media to be used for testing when not specified by the manufacturer.

Issue 182

This revision updates references to DIN EN-1177- Impact attenuating playground surfacing-Methods of test for determination of impact attenuation in Sections 2 and 26.9.1 to include the designation year 2018.

Issue 183

This revision clarifies and harmonizes language in Section 14.19 through 14.21, Section 14.23, and Section 15.8.

NSF has established a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2024.

Issue 186

This revision updates language regarding validation of UV dose displays throughout section 15. It also adds a definition for “residential supplemental disinfection” in Section 3.

Issue 188

This revision adds clarification to the heading for Section 15.5.2 regarding display validation for UV systems.

Issue 191

This revision clarifies and corrects language in Sections 6.1, 6.1.8, and N-2.4.5.
