As Director of Global Food Safety - Product Certification, Sara Risley ensures that NSF’s certifications provide independent verification for food label and packaging claims. In her current role, she is responsible for the department’s revenue, quality and performance.
Risley joined NSF in 2011 and worked in product certification in the Water division as well as Commercial Food Equipment prior to her current role. She has grown the Global Food Safety division’s Product Certification department to include organic, non-GMO, kosher, plant-based, gluten-free, Raised Without Antibiotics and honey traceability and authenticity certifications, in addition to bottled water and packaged ice. Risley oversees Quality Assurance International (QAI), an NSF company and leading organic certification provider in North American and international markets. She directly supports NSF’s efforts to help ensure that food products are not only compliant with various global regulations and requirements but are also monitored for ongoing compliance.
Risley holds a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Master of Science in human physiology from the University of Michigan. She has completed the High-Performance Leadership program in executive education at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
