Tom White has more than 40 years of specialized expertise in seafood, retail operations, foodservice, manufacturing, red meats, poultry and value-added commodities gained in food safety, quality assurance and laboratory director roles.

Currently NSF’s Global Business Lead for Seafood, Mr. White began his career with NSF in 2010 as a Seafood Audit Manager. He then moved into the role of Assistant Director of Laboratories, managing global seafood operations including accredited auditing, consultation and product evaluation in more than 20 countries. Most recently, he served as NSF’s Global Manager for Seafood Certifications and Audits.

Prior to joining NSF, Mr. White served as an Environmental Health Officer for the State of Alaska, where he was responsible for the FDA/State of Alaska contract for auditing food and seafood processing facilities and vessels. Before that, he was the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager for Meat and Seafood for Safeway Inc., managing QA programs throughout all 10 U.S. Safeway distribution centers.

A retired veteran, Mr. White served the United States Army for 20 years, with a final role as Senior Director of Operations.

His areas of expertise include:

  • Extensive knowledge of quality system and plant audits, including seafood HACCP; root cause analysis; HACCP, GMP and SSOP evaluation and monitoring; animal welfare; quality risk management; total quality management; and BRC, BAP and SQF
  • Retail operations, quality auditing, food manufacturing and warehouse/distribution operations
  • Design, development and implementation of seafood HACCP plans, product specifications, food quality and safety policies and procedures, and quality management
