Thai Agribusiness First to Receive GLOBALG.A.P. Number from NSF

Singtothong Trade Company Limited is NSF’s first client in the world to receive the GGN Label via GLOBALG.A.P. certification, demonstrating responsible farming and transparency.

Bangkok, Thailand – NSF, a leading public health and safety organization, today announced that Singtothong Trade Company Limited (Singtothong), a Thai agribusiness that produces and packs fresh fruit, has successfully obtained a GLOBALG.A.P. Number (GGN) via GLOBALG.A.P. certification. Singtothong is NSF’s first client in the world to receive a GGN Label as part of its certification, demonstrating the agribusiness’ responsible farming practices to suppliers and consumers.

"This milestone signifies our efforts to support food safety and sustainability in the produce industry worldwide," said Sutida Ketudut, Director of Food APAC, Retail, NSF. "We commend Singtothong Trade Company Limited on this achievement and hope that other produce suppliers will follow suit in conducting safer supply chain operations.”

Founded in 2004, Singtothong sells products including, bananas, Japanese melons, watermelons and more, to leading supermarkets and convenience stores in Thailand. Singtothong plans to expand business to other ASEAN countries.

“The GLOBALG.A.P. Number represents an internationally recognized standard for agriculture. As we plan to export products to more countries, including our GGN in our product labels both adds value and helps us to become more competitive in the market. Using our GGN also helps us to win the trust of retailers and supermarkets,” said Somyos Sangsurawong, Managing Director of Singtothong.

GLOBALG.A.P. is a private sector body that sets voluntary standards (based on Good Agricultural Practices) for certifying agricultural products around the globe developed in collaboration with producers, retailers, and other industry stakeholders, including a range of standards for safe, socially and environmentally responsible farming practices. The GGN is part of the GLOBALG.A.P. certification and is provided to companies whose products have received relevant certification and/or a level of assessment compliance at each point in the supply chain, is a universal mark of good farming practices.

Products are also required to achieve Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) at the farm level, full compliance with the GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP), Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs), monitored by a GLOBALG.A.P. recognized residue monitoring system via third-party sampling and Chain of Custody (CoC) certification for supply chain members. Once certified, the producer or producer group is issued a GGN, a 13-digit identification number that can be displayed on the produce and tracked by the consumer or purchaser.

NSF provides certifications to the Harmonized Produce Safety Standard (HPSS), IFA, CoC, localg.a.p./Primary Farm Assurance, and add-ons, which are the sub-scopes of GLOBALG.A.P. certification covering more than 135 countries. By achieving GLOBALG.A.P. certification with NSF, a food supplier can ensure that food has been produced, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards.
