Gasket and Gasket Material Certification

Certify gaskets and gasket materials to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 for greater market access. Gasket cutters can streamline certification and save money.

NSF offers two services for the gasket industry — specific to products being sold into the potable water market:

  • Certification of gaskets and gasket materials to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61.
  • Certification of facilities that cut, repackage or distribute NSF/ANSI/CAN 61-certified gaskets for the potable drinking water treatment market; we do this through our official NSF gasket cutter program.

Both services offer certification to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, the most recognized health effects standard in North America for municipal water treatment systems and products. This standard sets health effects criteria for chemical contaminants that may leach from materials, components and devices into drinking water.

If your products already use NSF-certified material, you can streamline certification. There are major advantages to certifying gaskets cut from NSF-certified material, because NSF already has the material formulation on file and has already tested the material. This can help speed up the process and also save you money.

Applying to NSF for Certification Is Simple and Straightforward

  • Identify the materials that will be repackaged or cut.
  • Identify any additional chemicals or materials used in packaging or cutting.
  • Identify the location of each cutting facility.
  • NSF will review all relevant information and conduct an initial audit of each facility to verify the sources of materials and any additional chemicals used.
  • NSF will work with you to complete the certification process, and in each subsequent year, we’ll conduct an audit to maintain certification.

Improve Product Acceptance and Access More Markets

NSF-certified gaskets have an important advantage: NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 is required by municipal water authorities in almost all U.S. states and Canadian provinces and territories.

In addition, your company and product will be featured in our NSF Product and Service Listings, and you can use the NSF mark on your product and in advertising.
