NSF is committed to honesty, integrity, and the prevention of fraud and corruption in all Rainforest Alliance auditing services. We strictly prohibit all forms of bribery and ensure that all audit records and certification decisions are transparent and accurate. Any suspected fraud or corruption is reported to the Rainforest Alliance, and NSF will repeat any audit service at its own cost if necessary.

Fraud is “a knowing misrepresentation of the truth or concealment of a material fact to induce another to act to his or her detriment.” It may involve, but is not limited to:  

• Bribery and corruption.
• Manipulation, falsification or alteration of audit records or documents.
• Deliberate omission of audit evidence witnessed through documentation, interviews or observation.
• Assigning conformity or closing nonconformities by misrepresenting the evidence.
• Usurpation of the Rainforest Alliance’s or the CB’s interests for personal gain.
• Payment or receipts of bribes or other inappropriate payments and/or gifts/favors.  

• NSF will respond to any corrupt or fraudulent activities of personnel in line with its disciplinary code and can lead to dismissal.  This will be done by NSF’s Human Resources Department.
• In terms of any corrupt or fraudulent activities by consultants, NSF will follow a similar process to an employee, and it could result in the cancellation of the consultants’ contract.

Please note that:

• NSF will report to Rainforest Alliance any fraud or corruption cases that are under investigation or detected.
• Rainforest Alliance reserved the right to exclude and personnel, consultant or certificate holders who conducted fraud or corruption from the Rainforest Alliance Program.

If any instances of fraud or corruption have been detected, NSF will repeat any audit service at its own cost.

NSF strictly prohibits any form of retaliation against any employee as a result of a report of a potential violation of this Policy or as a result of cooperating in an investigation of a suspected violation of this Policy.

The Chief Legal Officer is responsible for the administration of this Code of Ethics under the governance of the Audit Committee of NSF's Board of Directors.

NSF provides clear channels for raising concerns, grievances, complaints, or appeals.
