Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Herd Certification Program (HCP)
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a serious neurological disease affecting cervid species. To support herd health and regulatory compliance, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has established national standards for the CWD herd Certification Program (HCP). This certification is essential for maintaining industry sustainability and facilitating international trade.

NSF’s role in the CWD Herd Certification Program
Effective April 1, 2025, NSF will serve as the CWD HCP regional administrator (RA) and status assessor (SA) for herds located in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.
The NSF CWD HCP – standard operating procedure (SOP) defines the process that NSF follows to implement the certification program.
