As Director of Food Product Certification, Sonia Acuña-Rubio oversees organic certification programs under Quality Assurance International (QAI) and leads the food label and packaging claims programs globally, including Non-GMO, gluten-free, plant based, Raised Without Antibiotics and True Source Honey. Her teams vet products against required standards, providing assurance to consumers and manufacturers.

With more than 20 years of experience in the food sector and education in both Europe and the US, Acuña-Rubio has gained a deep understanding of the global need for sustainable, reliable supply chains, setting the bar high for industry standards by promoting transparency and integrity. She joined NSF in 2007 as Senior Managing Director of Latin America, expanding services to include certification, water and sustainability, in addition to auditing and training.

Acuña-Rubio holds a Master’s degree in Biosystems Engineering from UC Davis, an MBA from California State University and Engineering degrees in Agronomy and Food Industries from Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
