EU-MHR Compliance: Is Your Product Ready for 2027?

Prepare for EU Minimum Hygiene Requirements Under the Drinking Water Directive.

The EU Minimum Hygiene Requirements (EU-MHR), part of the recast EU Drinking Water Directive, will take effect on 1 January 2027. Manufacturers and suppliers of drinking water products must act now to ensure compliance and avoid costly delays.

Many manufacturers are asking critical questions, such as:

  1. Will non-EU certificates like NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, WRAS, or UK REG31 still be accepted in the EU after 2027?
  2. If NSF already knows the formulation for a product under NSF 61, could that information help EU-MHR certification?
  3. Are audits and testing required annually or every five years?
  4. If I begin testing and evaluation today before the 1 January 2027 deadline, how long will my results be valid for?
  5. How does pre-product certification Protocol 534 help with EU-MHR certification?
