NSF Food Safety Plus: How We Help Support Your Peace of Mind

Our NSF Food Safety Plus audits are designed to support your peace of mind—whether you're eating out or buying food to enjoy at home. Learn what we do behind the scenes.

Why food safety matters

Every meal should be something you can enjoy with confidence. Food safety goes beyond clean kitchens—it’s about making sure the right steps are in place, from storage to serving, to help protect your health and well-being.

What is NSF Food Safety Plus?

When you see the NSF Food Safety Plus badge, it means the food outlet has been audited by us on a specific date, to check risks like foodborne illness and allergens are being managed according to our checklist. It also means the outlet can further drive-up food safety standards using the information we collect.

Read on to discover what our experts look for—so you can feel more confident about what you eat and drink.

Ideal for: Food outlets with many sites, looking to go beyond the basics by using the data we collect to drive up food safety consistently across their locations.

What it covers:

  • The basics Using our checklist (based on decades of delivering food safety audits, over many thousands of hours) we check the basics behind the scenes—cleanliness, food storage, temperature control, pest control, allergen management and hygiene practices.
When we visit, we can also trace the journey of a product in the store – checking each step, so that by the time you buy it or order it, you can feel more confident about the food and drink you’re served.
  • Extra checks Outlets who use NSF Food Safety Plus can also do their own food safety audit using our specialist checklist for extra peace of mind.

Results-driven improvements in the moment and across locations: During each audit, we coach staff onsite, helping them improve and address any food safety issues immediately.
Additionally, all the data we collect is entered into our own secure platform, allowing businesses to compare results across all their outlets. With this data we make further recommendations to drive up food safety in the future.

Why it matters: It helps businesses keep food safety front and center as they grow, and is designed to drive up consistency – wherever you visit.

Look for the NSF Food Safety Plus badge on the door, window, or inside the store for greater confidence in your food or drink.

When you see the NSF Food Safety Plus badge, it means the food outlet has been audited by an NSF Auditor on a specific date. On that date, the outlet met the specific requirements outlines in the NSF food safety checklist, and any additional requirements specified to us by the brand.
