Food Equipment Electrical Safety Testing and Certification for North America

Test and certify your electrical food equipment with the experts.

Want to sell electrical food equipment in North America?

To enter the US and Canadian markets, your products must meet strict electrical safety requirements.

We provide end-to-end testing and certification for a clear and efficient route to compliance, so you can bring your products to market with confidence.

Why electrical certification is required

Electrical food equipment must be certified to meet national safety codes before it can be sold, installed, or used:

  • US National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Canada: Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).

Certification must be carried out by:

  • A Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) (US)
  • An Accredited Certification Body (CB) (Canada).

Without this certification, your product cannot legally enter the market.

NSF is accredited as both:

  • An OSHA Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory in the US
  • A Standards Council of Canada (SCC) Certification Body.

To supply to the US, your products also need Food Equipment Sanitation Safety Certification – we can help you with that, too.

NSF food equipment certification: One choice for US and Canada

We manage your entire certification process for both markets, combining electrical safety and sanitation approvals and, where possible, annual audits, to reduce complexity, save on costs and speed up market access.

We offer a global network of accredited labs, including electrical safety testing capabilities in Italy and China, approved for use under the NSF NRTL scope. This enables you to complete certification and testing locally.
