How NSF Vegan Certification process works
Vegan Certification with NSF takes approximately six weeks or less. Products, ingredients, and processing aids will undergo a thorough review process to ensure compliance with the protocol. These are the key steps to achieve your certification:

Connect with the NSF sales team
Your journey toward Vegan begins with our Sales team – your first point of contact at NSF. You’ll be introduced to an Account Executive who will guide you through the certification process, answer any initial questions, and gather key details about your products and goals. This information helps us tailor the certification pathway to your needs and prepare a customised quote. With NSF, you’ll receive expert support from the start. - 2
Submit your application
After signing your quote, you’ll be introduced to your NSF account manager, who will guide you through the next steps of the certification process. At this stage, you’ll be asked to submit key documentation, including facility details, product and ingredient lists, labels and formulations, ingredient compliance records, and Standard Operating Procedures. Once your application materials are received, NSF will begin a thorough review to verify compliance and move your certification forward with confidence and efficiency. - 3
Address findings and submit additional information
During the review process, NSF may request clarification or additional documentation to ensure full compliance with the Vegan and Cruelty-Free Certification Protocol. If any findings are identified – such as incomplete or non-compliant documentation – your account manager will notify you with clear guidance on what’s needed. All requested materials must be submitted and approved before certification can be finalised, ensuring your products meet NSF’s rigorous standards with confidence and transparency. - 4
Achieve certification and maintain compliance
Once all documentation is received, findings are resolved, and full compliance with the Vegan Protocol is confirmed, NSF will issue your official certificate. This includes a listing of your certified products and company name, both on the certificate and on NSF’s public listings website. Certification is renewed annually and includes a review of products, ingredients, and documentation. Any changes made throughout the year to certified products must be submitted to NSF for approval prior to implementation – ensuring continued integrity and alignment with certification standards.
