Nonfood Compounds Registration vs. NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 Certification for Water Treatment Chemicals

Chemicals provide an effective way to treat drinking water and water in food or beverage facilities. Sometimes, the same chemicals can be used for both purposes. However, they may be subject to different rules and regulations depending on their end use.

When looking for water treatment chemicals, it is important to consider the industry they are used in, as well as the end use for which they have been reviewed or tested. Chemicals used to treat water in food or beverage processing facilities may be registered under the G category codes for water treatment products in NSF’s Nonfood Compounds registration programme. Chemicals used to treat drinking water may be certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60: Drinking Water Treatment Chemicals – Health Effects.
