GRMA Authorizes NSF to Provide NSF/ANSI 455 GMP Certification Services to Members

GMP certification now available to manufacturers of dietary supplements, over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics/personal care products

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Global Retailer and Manufacturer Alliance (GRMA) recently authorized NSF (NSF) to audit and certify GRMA members to the NSF/ANSI 455 GMP standards. The new GMP certification program is available to GRMA members manufacturing dietary supplements, cosmetics/personal care products and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. These standards are designed to strengthen safety, quality and trust throughout the supply chain, combine regulatory requirements with retailer quality requirements and reduce the number of audits and financial costs associated with audits.

“We’ve been involved with the GRMA since its inception and we are very excited to see the harmonization of quality standards and regulatory requirements for greater consumer safety,” said Katie Fillinger, Certification Program Manager at NSF. “Whether you are making supplements, personal care products or OTC drugs, independent certification to NSF/ANSI 455 GMP is the best way to demonstrate your commitment to quality and Good Manufacturing Practices.”

To earn accreditation, certification bodies are reviewed annually by both GRMA and ANAB. The certification body must utilize highly qualified auditors with industry-specific experience and education for each product category. Certifiers must conform with an established code of conduct to ensure a high degree of integrity and professionalism throughout the certification process.

GRMA members include major retailers, manufacturers, trade associations and certification bodies. Members earning GMP certification from NSF will receive a certificate bearing marks from the GRMA, ANAB and NSF. Together, these marks represent a commitment to quality and regulatory compliance that sends a powerful signal to suppliers, vendors and clients.

“We applaud NSF’s continued commitment to GRMA’s mission,” said Allyn Shultis of the GRMA. “This achievement identifies NSF’s competence and their ability to meet GRMA GMP Certification Program requirements.”

NSF’s GMP certification program is also accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB).The standards include detailed requirements for dietary supplements (NSF/ANSI 455-2), cosmetics/personal care products (NSF/ANSI 455-3) and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs (NSF/ANSI 455-4).

Global Retailer and Manufacturer Alliance (GRMA) is a nonprofit Certification Program Owner (CPO) with members from major retailers, manufacturers, trade associations and certification bodies. The alliance was formed in an effort to create an independent, accountable organization, driven by industry leaders to manage harmonized quality standards and help promote consumer safety in several non-food related industries, including dietary supplements, cosmetics and over-the-counter drug products.
