Dave Purkiss

Vice President, Water

Dave Purkiss is the Vice President of NSF and has over 35 years of experience in all aspects of water treatment and distribution systems. He leads NSF’s global water programs, including offices in the US, Belgium, China, India, Korea and the UK. These teams deliver certification programs that help ensure the quality and safety of products used in municipal water treatment, water distribution, residential drinking water treatment, plumbing, pools and spas, and wastewater treatment.

Since joining NSF in 1987, Purkiss has worked on many major initiatives including assisting in developing NSF standards and certification programs. As General Manager of Plumbing Products, he oversaw the certification of plumbing products, such as faucets and mechanical and plastic plumbing parts, to national and international standards. As Managing Director of NSF’s UK Water team, he played a key role in managing the launch and development of NSF’s lab in Wales, which provides testing for water and fitting materials, and is the largest such lab in the UK.

Purkiss also held previous leadership roles as the General Manager of Municipal Water Products and the General Manager of Drinking Water Additives General Manager of Plumbing Products at NSF in addition to having taught high school chemistry for several years.

Purkiss holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Michigan State University and is also the current chair of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Polyelectrolytes Standards Committee.
