NSF/ANSI 244 Technical Requirements

NSF/ANSI 244 is the American National Standard that sets benchmark criteria for drinking water filters designed to protect against intermittent incursions or accidental microbiological contamination of public or private drinking water.

What’s the need?

Health-conscious consumers look to water filtration manufacturers for technologies that are certified to provide an extra layer of protection for themselves and their families.

Private water sources, such as wells, are not always tested regularly, so contamination of this kind can occur in both public and private water supplies.

Testing required under NSF/ANSI 244

Testing under this standard includes:

  • Structural integrity
  • Material safety
  • Reduction testing to show a 3-log reduction of bacteria and viruses, respectively.

Product types eligible for this certification

  • Ultrafiltration
  • Microfiltration
  • Nanofiltration
  • Reverse osmosis
  • Ceramic.

NOTE: Products must include an End-of-Life Indicator (ELI).
