NSF’s 4,000 sq. ft. Advanced Pipe Test Facility II, located in Canada, has the largest oxidative resistance testing capacity worldwide, providing the unique ability to quickly and effectively measure and evaluate material performance over time. Our capabilities include accelerated testing of the potential impact of disinfectants on the long-term performance of materials in potable water applications (most commonly PEX, PE, PE-RT and PP) as well as proprietary testing methodologies and leading edge proprietary analysis methodologies.

We currently test to:

  • ASTM F2023 – Standard Test Method for Evaluating the Oxidative Resistance of Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing and Systems to Hot Chlorinated Water
  • ASTM F2263 – Standard Test Method for Evaluating the Oxidative Resistance of Polyethylene (PE) Pipe to Chlorinated Water

Why Work with NSF?

Plastic piping plays an essential role in the distribution of gas, drinking water and wastewater worldwide. Testing and certification to internationally-recognized standards verifies plastic piping products have met the required durability, performance and safety criteria for use in commercial and residential applications. NSF has served as a global provider of testing and certification for the plastic pipe industry for nearly 50 years. NSF developed the American National Standards for pipes and other products that treat or come into contact with drinking water and certified more than 60,000 products to these standards.

Consulting

To ensure our plastic pipe clients have the strongest combination of consulting and laboratory technical expertise, NSF has developed an agreement with Jana, a project-based consulting firm that serves the global water and plastic pipe industries, to benefit both organizations’ clients. Through the agreement, Jana will be able to provide independent consulting services to NSF clients and NSF will be able to provide testing services to Jana’s clients. The two organizations also will work together in the development of new standards.
