BRCGS Consumer Products Certification
Confidence in consumer products backed by NSF.

As nonfood consumer products move through increasingly complex global supply chains, expectations around product safety, legal compliance, and quality management continue to rise. Retailers, brand owners, and regulators expect clear evidence that products are manufactured under controlled conditions and supported by robust management systems.
BRCGS Consumer Products certification, delivered by NSF, helps organizations demonstrate that confidence — protecting brand reputation, strengthening retailer relationships, and supporting access to global markets.
NSF is approved to deliver BRCGS Consumer Products certification audits for the Personal Care and Household category, supporting manufacturers that are transitioning from packaging certification or expanding into consumer product manufacturing.
What is BRCGS consumer products?
The BRCGS Global Standard for Consumer Products is a globally recognized certification scheme designed specifically for nonfood consumer goods. It provides a structured, risk-based framework that enables organizations to:
- Identify and manage product safety and quality risks.
- Demonstrate compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Implement effective quality and management systems.
- Meet retailer, brand, and customer expectations with confidence.
The standard is widely recognized by retailers and brand owners as a benchmark for consumer product assurance.

Certification levels
BRCGS Consumer Products offers two certification levels to reflect different stages of organizational maturity and customer requirements:
- Foundation level: Designed as an entry point to the standard, Foundation Level certification provides a clear, pass/fail outcome. All nonconformities must be closed prior to certificate issuance, making it ideal for organizations new to the standard or with lower complexity operations.
- Higher level: Higher Level certification includes a graded outcome and is suited to organizations with more mature management systems or retailer-driven expectations. It supports stronger differentiation and greater confidence across the supply chain.
Product categories NSF supports
NSF’s current accreditation focuses on consumer products manufactured from materials commonly associated with packaging and hygiene environments, including:
- Paper-based consumer products (napkins, paper towels).
- Plastic consumer products (plastic wrap, plastic tableware, straws).
- Metal consumer products (aluminum foil, disposable containers).
This scope supports organizations that have historically been certified to BRCGS Packaging Materials but now manufacture finished consumer goods requiring alignment with the correct BRCGS standard.
