WaterMark Certification for Plumbing Products

WaterMark Certification verifies that plumbing products comply with mandatory Australian and New Zealand requirements for safety, quality, and installation. NSF provides certification support to help manufacturers access these markets with confidence.

What is WaterMark?

The WaterMark Certification Scheme is a mandatory scheme for plumbing and drainage products, overseen by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB). Products bearing the WaterMark demonstrate that they:

  • Comply with the Plumbing Code of Australia.
  • Are fit for purpose.
  • Meet relevant Australian and New Zealand standards for quality, health, and safety.

WaterMark certification is required before a licensed plumber can legally install plumbing products, in accordance with state and territory regulations.

Key features of the WaterMark Scheme

  • 1

    Five-year certification cycle

Includes annual product monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • 2

    National Construction Code (NCC) compliance

Products listed on the WaterMark Schedule of Products must be certified before installation by a licensed plumber.

  • 3

    • AS/NZS 3718 – The standard for tapware performance and durability; requires conformance to AS/NZS 4020.
    • AS/NZS 4020 – The standard for material effects on water quality.

  • Tapware.
  • Tap accessories.
  • Shower components.

It also covers any material or product intended for contact with drinking water that has been tested against AS/NZS 4020 for health effects.
