NSF International Named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers List for 2018
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — In recognition of its success in improving sustainability in the food and beverage industry, NSF International has been named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers list for 2018.
The annual list from the Wisconsin-based publication recognizes companies whose products, services or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage sector.
With nearly 75 years of experience in the food industry, NSF International is well known for its extensive suite of food safety and food equipment services including certification, testing and auditing services. Separately, the global public health organization also works in sustainability by helping food and beverage companies set and achieve sustainability goals, diagnose performance and impact, design strategies and programs, and deliver sustainability solutions to bolster the supply chain, operations and brand reputation.
Among NSF International’s projects:
- Through a partnership with the Canadian Roundtable on Sustainable Beef (CRSB), NSF International has developed oversight protocols, audit manuals and program management materials for a new sustainable beef standard.
- NSF International is working with a leading restaurant chain to assess its progress toward responsible sourcing goals for six key food commodities; NSF’s industry-leading compliance software, TraQtion, tracks progress against these goals.
- NSF International’s direct work with farmers and dairy producers to improve sustainability demonstrates the industry convergence of food safety, sustainability and animal welfare issues, allowing NSF’s expertise to meet diverse industry needs.
“Our unique position at the intersection of sustainability and food safety enables NSF International to develop and implement effective sustainability solutions that have real and measurable impact,” said Joshua Brugeman, Business Unit Manager of Sustainability Consulting for NSF International.
According to Food Logistics, which is dedicated to covering the movement of product through the global food supply chain, criteria for earning a spot on Top Green Providers has become more stringent for applicants each year. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs as well as whether its facilities are LEED-certified and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measurable reductions in GHG emissions.
“The agricultural sector and food supply chains at large have long recognized the importance of environmental stewardship for long-term sustainability in both business and for future food production globally,” said Lara L. Sowinski, Editorial Director. “Food Logistics remains committed to promoting those in our industry who understand their leadership role in sustainability and work to raise the bar with new products, services and strategies each year.”
